October can be one of the best times of year in Lake Tahoe. The summer crowds have thinned out, fall color is beginning to show around the lake, and cooler mornings are arriving even while we can still get some surprisingly warm afternoons.
It is also a busier month than people sometimes realize. Between Oktoberfest, concerts, community fundraisers, the Lake Tahoe Marathon, the start of Tahoe Knight Monsters hockey and several Halloween events, there is plenty happening around the lake and nearby this month.
Here are some of the events worth knowing about in October.
Tahoe Blue Event Center, Stateline | 7:30 p.m.
Hairball brings its arena-rock tribute show to the Tahoe Blue Event Center to kick off October's entertainment schedule.
South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe | 8:00 p.m.
Reggae band Steel Pulse comes to Stateline as part of its Reggae Against Racism Tour.
Lake Tahoe | 10:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Send Dip brings people together for a cold-water group plunge supporting young adult cancer survivors. The morning includes coffee, donuts, music and a vendor village, with the group plunge scheduled for 11:10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to participate.
South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe | 8:00 p.m.
Get the Led Out brings the music of Led Zeppelin to the South Shore Room for a live tribute performance.
South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe | 7:30 p.m.
Rumours of Fleetwood Mac celebrates the music of Fleetwood Mac with a live tribute performance covering songs from throughout the band's catalog.

Long-running jam band moe. comes to Stateline for an evening performance at Harrah's South Shore Room.
Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe, Stateline | 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
The inaugural South Shore Chili Cook Off pairs local restaurants with regional first responders to create signature chili recipes. Admission includes unlimited tastings, People's Choice voting and live music, with participating teams competing for South Shore's Best Chili. Guests are also encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
Zephyr Cove Resort | 4:00–7:00 p.m.
Zephyr Cove Community Day returns aboard the M.S. Dixie for an evening of local connection. The boat will remain dockside while guests enjoy welcome beverages, live music, hors d'oeuvres and charcuterie while meeting community members and local organizations.
Tahoe Blue Event Center, Stateline
The Tahoe Knight Monsters return to the Tahoe Blue Event Center for three games against the New Mexico Goatheads. Friday and Saturday games begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by a 3:00 p.m. Sunday game.

The Knight Monsters finish October with another three-game home series. Games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, with a 3:00 p.m. Halloween game on Saturday.
South Shore Room at Harrah's Lake Tahoe | 7:30 p.m.
Direct from Sweden brings the music of ABBA to Stateline on Halloween night with a live tribute to the Swedish pop group's best-known songs.
Camp Richardson Resort | 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
One of South Lake Tahoe's longstanding fall traditions returns with live German music, Bavarian food, a beer and wine garden, vendor booths, family activities and the always-popular stein-holding competition. Admission and bike valet are free.

The 31st Lake Tahoe Marathon Weekend includes three days of races ranging from 5Ks and a 10K to half marathons, full marathons and a 72-mile ultra. Kids Pumpkin Fun Runs are also part of the weekend. Even if you are not running, it is worth keeping the event in mind if you will be driving around the lake.
Heavenly Village
Cars, trucks and motorcycles take over Heavenly Village for a three-day show featuring trophies, a poker run, sidewalk sales and the event's old-car raffle giveaway.

Heavenly Village hosts one of the South Shore's largest free Halloween events with trick-or-treating, family activities and a costume contest with $1,000 in prizes.
Bally's Lake Tahoe | 9:00 p.m.
For adults, the long-running Freaker's Ball returns to Bally's Lake Tahoe with its annual Halloween party and $15,000 costume contest. The event is 21 and over.
